Julian Nagelsmann’s contract as National Football Coach expires in the summer. DFB President Neuendorf now wants to make another offer.

The German Football Association (DFB) is planning to go beyond the home European Championship with Julian Nagelsmann and is aiming for an early contract extension with the National Coach even before the start of the EURO.

“The chemistry is right”, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said on Thursday (21.03.2024) at a SID request and emphasized: “Julian has said that he would like clarity about his future ahead of the European Championship Tournament. We will certainly not close ourselves to such a desire.”

Neuendorf continues: “We got to know – and appreciate-the coach and the person Julian Nagelsmann at the DFB in a relatively short time. He fully identifies himself with his task and with the Association and shows a great passion. He knows our appreciation for him.”

Nagelsmann: “Association or association”

Nagelsmann (36) had a contract last September as Hansi Flick’s successor up to and including the European Championship (14 September). June to 14. July). On Wednesday, the “kicker” had initially reported that the DFB leadership was planning an extension, but possibly wanted to tie this to the success at the tournament.

The National Coach himself showed himself a few hours earlier in a Fan PK open to several options. “In general, I know that a one-year break after the European Championship or a half-year break is out of the question for me. Unless there is no offer. But if one comes, it is excluded”, he said. For him, there are two variants: “Association or club.”
