By Frank van der Velden

The Fans of Borussia Dortmund probably associate Peter Bosz above all with a game. In November 2017, under the Dutch coach, BVB was ahead 4-0 in the Bundesliga against FC Schalke 04 at the break and only played 4-4 in the end. A short time later, Bosz was released in Dortmund, so he is not too well remembered there either.

When Dortmund played in the draw for the round of 16 in December last year Champions League that PSV Eindhoven were the opponents, and the relief was great. Of course, you have respect, it was said by the BVB, but secretly you probably already assumed a feasible lot at that time. After all, the German Bundesliga is generally considered stronger than the Dutch Eredivisie. And the coach of the club from North Brabant is called – you guessed it – Peter Bosz.

No Self-Propelled Guns for Dortmund

On Tuesday (from 9 p.m. in the Audio Livestream at now we go to Eindhoven. But a self-Runner will certainly not make the round of 16 for the Black and yellow. That’s because – exactly – Peter Bosz. The 60-year-old has been coaching PSV since last summer. And already in his first year, the successor of former world-class striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is heading straight for the first championship title in six years.

Unbeaten in the Eredivisie

In the Eredivisie, Eindhoven is unbeaten, winning 20 of the 22 matches of the season. Goal ratio-70: 10. Ten points is the padding on the second Feyenoord Rotterdam. In the premier class, the Team asserted itself in a group with FC Arsenal, Dem FC Seville and RC Lens and finished second behind the with only one loss in London “Gunners”.

With 17 consecutive starting wins, PSV also set their own record from the 1987-88 season. At that time, greats such as Ronald Koeman, Sören Lerby and Wim Kieft were still on the court. Hans van Breukelen guarded the goal and on the sideline stood coach Legend Guus Hiddink. However, there was a painful defeat in the round of 16 of the Dutch club Cup, where PSV lost 0-1 in Rotterdam against Feyenoord.

Eindhoven with broad chest

So it is not surprising that the Dutch receive the Borussia from Dortmund with a wide chest. BVB has indeed competed in the Champions League in the “Death Group” with Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, and Newcastle United enforced, runs in the league with partly manageable performances but behind the music.

Eindhoven under Bosz, on the other hand, is primarily offensive full-throttle football with a high-standing defense, courage and willingness to take risks. The defense with offensive fullbacks Sergino Dest and Jordan Zeze is well played, Jerdy Schouten pulls the strings as a Sixer, Joey Veerman is the Control Center in midfield. The wingers Johan Bakayoko and Noa Lang are on the move at lightning speed, and then there is the former Mönchengladbach Luuk de Jong. He has already scored 27 goals in 34 competitive matches this season.

Bosz in Dortmund once failed

With his uncompromising full-pressing approach, Bosz had failed in Dortmund at the time. The Dutchman succeeded Thomas Tuchel in 2017, but had to leave after only 24 games. After a good Start, there was a losing streak, which found its negative climax in the Ruhrpott Derby. A little later, Bosz came to an end, who also subsequently joined Bayer Leverkusen and Olympique Lyon it had only moderate success.

“That was a long time ago. I try to just look at the duel”, Bosz said before the round of 16 first leg: “There are not many professionals from back then. There is no point in looking back – what’s the point?” But a little anticipation is already there. “I am most looking forward to the people who still work there, to Marco Reus, but above all to Julian Brandt – I know him from Leverkusen”, said Bosz.

Tillman: “we definitely want to get ahead”

In Eindhoven it seems to fit for Bosz now. In any case, in the Netherlands, opponents do not find a remedy for the brilliant Bosz style. The duels with BVB in the round of 16 can therefore be seen as a kind of maturity test. “Dortmund will see what happens here.”, former Bayern player Malik Tillman confidently told the” kicker: “We definitely want to move forward.”
